Street hail vs posted fare
Why pedicab prices are hard to compare
Many downtown pedicab fares are set by each driver at the curb. Two riders on the same block can pay very different prices, and the number often comes up only when the ride is over. Here's how that compares with a posted, prepaid fare.
| Typical street hail | Power Chariots | |
|---|---|---|
| When you learn the price | Often negotiated at the curb, or quoted at the end | Shown before you book |
| How the price is set | Set by each driver; “per block” or “per minute” pricing that is hard to compare | One flat fare per person: $20 anywhere in the service area |
| When you pay | Cash or a card reader on the spot | Prepaid online or by text link, so nothing changes at drop-off |
| Receipt | Often none | Email receipt and trip record for every ride |
| Tip | Varies | Optional, 100% to your driver |
What a group pays
Fares are per person. Each chariot carries up to 6 riders, and bigger groups get as many chariots as they need, all at the same per-person price.
| Group | Chariots | Ride | 60-min tour |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 riders | 1 chariot | $40 | $140 |
| 4 riders | 1 chariot | $80 | $280 |
| 6 riders | 1 chariot | $120 | $420 |
| 8 riders | 2 chariots | $160 | $560 |
| 12 riders | 2 chariots | $240 | $840 |

Pedicab price questions
How much does a pedicab cost in San Diego?
With Power Chariots, any ride inside our downtown San Diego service area is $20 per person, posted and paid before you ride. Guided tours are $40 (30 minutes), $70 (60 minutes) and $95 (90 minutes) per person.
Is the pedicab price per person or per ride?
Per person. Each chariot seats up to 6 riders, so a group of 4 on a ride pays 4 × $20 = $80.
Why do other pedicab prices vary so much?
Many downtown pedicab fares are set by each driver at the curb, sometimes per block or per minute, and the total may only come up at the end of the ride. Power Chariots posts one flat fare and charges it before the ride starts.
Do I have to tip a pedicab driver?
No. On Power Chariots, tips are optional and go 100% to your driver.
Do kids pay?
Kids under 5 ride free on an adult's lap. Everyone else pays the per-person fare.
Can the price change after the ride?
No. Your fare is paid and locked before you ride. The only thing you can add is an optional tip.
How far does the $20 fare go?
Anywhere inside the service area: Little Italy, North Embarcadero, the Gaslamp Quarter, East Village and Petco Park, the Convention Center, Seaport Village, Sherman Heights and Barrio Logan. It's the same price for one block or across downtown.
What if I cancel?
Cancel 15 minutes or more before pickup for a full refund. Later cancellations and no-shows aren't refunded, and if we cancel for weather, safety or equipment you get 100% back.
